Chip's Challenge Wiki

April Fools' Day had a series of many elaborate hoaxes related to Chip's Challenge, more than any April Fools' Day before.

CCLP3 Voting Hoax

Larry Jackson made a post on the newsgroup claiming that some levels had to be eliminated due to glitches in Tile World. [1] The glitch claims began somewhat reasonable, such as a level cannot have more than 256 chips, and ended with claims that were absolutely ridiculous, such as the 13th level in each set was deleted to prevent bad luck. He ended the post with a link that showed "April Fool", but if you searched the page, you could find a link where you could actually vote. The real voting announcement was made several hours later.

New Glitch Hoax

Andrew Bennett made an announcement on the newsgroup claiming he discovered a new and revolutionary glitch. [2] He stated if you hold against the flow of force floors, after 40 seconds you will override the force floor. He claimed that on Tele-Rooms you could press down, hold up for 40 seconds, then override the force floor and achieve a score of 310, which is 30 seconds over the current bold. He claimed you could also use the same glitch to solve Force Field. Andrew made a video for Tele-Rooms showing the 310 score, but it was, of course, faked.

716 Seconds on Cake Walk Hoax

Tyler Sontag responded to John Lewis's April Fools' joke of reporting the Melinda Time of 443 on Block N Roll by reporting the Melinda score of 717 on Cake Walk. He later posted an AVI of a 716 score. It was elaborately set up and edited for a score of 716 seconds to have been achieved. Tyler posted a full explanation in the video description.

Smaller Hoaxes

  • As mentioned before, John Lewis reported a score of 443 on Block N Roll, but it was a joke. [3]
  • Rolf Redford posted that several of his levels were busted, claiming for one that "the rapid cloning of frogs eventually will cause a glitch in map which clone monster will suddenly change to a glider." [4]
  • theponderism claimed that levels now uploaded to Chip's Portal would have an extremely strict removal policy. [5]
