Bug N

A bug, often known as a bee and the paramecium as a bug, is a monster in Chip's Challenge. It always stays to the left when it moves, so if there is no wall to the left of it, it will turn left. If there is no wall within its vicinity, it will resort to continually turning clockwise in a 2-by-2 square until a wall appears to the left of it. It will die in water, but treats fire as a wall.

The following diagram illustrates these properties:

Floor Chip E
Floor Dirt
Floor Bug E

As it stands, the bug will play east and circle the dirt space, killing Chip if he does not move from his current position. If Chip were to play D immediately onto the dirt, or LDR, L2DRU, or L2D2RUL, or circle around it any number of times and then touch it, the bug would continue along its path one more move and then turn left incessantly unless something were to step onto one of those four squares. If Chip moved a block onto the dirt's location, the bug would stop circling in 2x2 and then circle in 3x3 once again. If there were fire underneath the dirt space, the bug's movement would not be affected.

In addition to this, the bug suffers from the Controller and Boss Glitch.

Trivia

  • According to Melinda, the Chip's Challenge bug originates from Africa, and her collection accidentally got loose into the clubhouse.
  • The bug is the first monster seen in the game, originally found in Lesson 2.
